Grade 3 & 4 STEM

Grade 3 & 4 students have STEM as a Specialist subject.

Grade 3 & 4 students will investigate:

Earth and Space Science including; how Earth’s rotation causes regular changes and how Earth’s surface changes over time as a result of natural processes.

Physical Science including; how heat can be produced and moves from one object to another and the effect of forces on objects.

Chemical Science including; the change from a solid to liquid and the properties of natural and processed materials.

Biological Science including; the features of living things and how different living things have different life cycles.

Science Inquiry Skills including; working in groups, recording data, discussing and reflecting on investigation results.

Grade 3 & 4 students design, explore and test a variety of materials, equipment and techniques. They plan and sequence steps in design and production and identify safe practices when investigating and creating.

Grade 5 & 6 STEM

Grade 5 & 6 students have STEM as a Specialist subject.

Grade 5 & 6 students will investigate:

Earth and Space Science including; the Solar System and geological changes that affect the Earth’s surface.

Physical Science including; light and sources of energy.

Chemical Science including; the ways solids, liquids and gases change and reversible and irreversible changes.

Biological Science including; adaptations of living things and how living things are affected by their environment.

Science Inquiry Skills including; working collaboratively, making predictions, recording and comparing data and suggesting improvements to investigations.

Grade 5 & 6 students record their design plans and select and use appropriate techniques correctly and safely to produce designed solutions. They experiment with materials, tools and equipment to refine their design ideas.
